Tooth Selection Per Inch
You must select the correct teeth per inch (TPI) for the thickness of the material you intend to cut. If the correct TPI is not chosen, the saw blade life will be drastically reduced. TPI selection is undoubtedly the most important decision when selecting a saw blade.

The number of TPI defines the blade pitch and can vary from 1 to 32 TPI. In some saw blades, there are different pitches on the same blade, called "Vari-Pitch". The TPI is measured from gullet to gullet, not from tip to tip of the tooth - this is known as pitch.
The general rule is:
• For wood and soft materials, choose 3 - 6 teeth.
• For metals and harder materials, look for 6 to 24 teeth.
Some things to note:
• Few teeth can damage the work and break them.
• Too many teeth can overload the gullet and break the teeth.
Use the saw blade teeth per inch chart below to select the ideal TPI for your project needs.
